Painting Like Pollock
We've been learning about the famous abstract expressionist artist, Jackson Pollock. He was an action painter who loved to move around as he painted and cared more about the process of painting than the end product. Have a look at this old video footage of Pollock at work.
We tried out some painting in Pollock's style. We worked in groups to complete an art work. Here are the results...
Yesterday afternoon Room 9 did some painting like Jackson Pollock. We went outside in our art shirts. There were lots of pots of bright paint and we used sticks to flick the paint on the paper. Our paintings look bright and have lots of blobs of colours on them. - Lucy
How to Paint Like Pollock (by Ashane)
Materials
- a stick
- large canvas
- paint (any colour)
- broken glass
Steps
1. Take your canvas outside and make sure it's not windy.
2. Dip the stick in any paint colour.
3. Flick the stick around the paper.
4. Make sure you hold the canvas tight so it doesn't fly away.
5. Leave it to dry somewhere warm.
My Pollock Experience (by Angela)
It was fun. I learned that you can never rush art. I got a blue face because I was flicking too hard and it splattered on my face. It looked like I had a mask on. It felt exciting, but strange because it wasn't like the art I do at home, just drawing pictures. I feel that Jackson Pollock's artwork is amazing and exciting and you don't have to care what other people think.

Monet
Today we looked at some paintings by a French artist called Claude Monet. This Youtube video will give you a closer look at some of his art. The music on the video is by a French composer Debussy who lived around the same time as Monet (and his first name was Claude too!) Have a look and leave a comment about anything you notice in the paintings.
